New Heights of Exceptionalism

Julian Assange is the "Wikileaks" guy, an Australian citizen, currently thought to be living in Sweden. He is leading in Time Magazine's "Person of the Year" poll, and that is freaking out a lot of people. Megan McCain, who I actually rather like, went on the air to rant against him and called him "un-American." Really. An Australian living in Sweden is "un-American." That was very "un-Swedish" of her.

If you want to really piss off Time Magazine and a lot of Republicans at the same time, you can go vote here for Assange.

what is "un-american" about exposing graft, corruption, fraud, lies, BS etc from the political leaders? What happened to the 1st amendment? That ought to be right up ther at the top of "being American".

Yeah yeah, I know about national security and need for secrets... But that shouldbe the exception not the rule. And certainly not to cover up the above stuff.

  2. I kinda like Megan, too, but: calling an Australian living in Sweden "un-American" does say something about her level of - - something. I'm not quite sure what, but it doesn't impress me.
